Problem
The problem that i faced was that i needed to film the two smokers doing the fitness test, but because of the snow they were unable to do the fitness test in the same place.
Where?
The two smokers will film in the dance studio, due to health and safety from the previous place.
After the fitness test the two smokers will then give their conclusion.

Editing
Whilst editing I found that i had so much information and interviews, even though they were needed, the documentary is too long and filming has not edited.
What am i going to do?
Edit everything that i need, then edit to the right time.
Music.
Jungle book, i wanna be like you.
Ting Tings shut up and let me go.

Day four/filming
Day four
For day four Richard and Jessica travelled down to accountants plus, where there was a spare room for us to record in.
For the day i recorded
For day four Richard and Jessica travelled down to accountants plus, where there was a spare room for us to record in.
For the day i recorded
- how they were feeling
- how they were coping
- to see if they know anything and learned anything about smoking
This is Richard and Jessica preparing for fiming in the "spare room".
For day five someone who works for stop smoking Wales rang me and said they could organise an interveiw with somone from Saint Andrews in Tonypandy, i wanted them to interveiw someone who knew one the topic because i wanted to get professional information and them to get a more better understanding on the subject.
What went well?
- Both made the effect to travel
- they had honest evaluations of the day.
- they learned from the smoking presentation.
Even better if?
- they knew more on what they learned.

Day three/filming
Day three
For day three there wasnt alot of filming this was because Jessica wasnt in which was a major problem for filming, in day three Richard is talking about how he feels and that Jessica is not in. They will record themselves tonight for a video diaries, and they will do this for day four and five, because we are not in college which makes filming a little bit harder.
I filmed in Coleg.

I filmed in Coleg.
what went well?
- Richard was in.
- If Jess was in.
- Went out to socialize to see how they react with their friends.
Day two/ filming
Day two
For day two we had to do a presentation for key skills, which was very good because the two smokers got to see a presentation on smoking, they were then asked what they thought of the presentation, the reaction given was good and expected.
Richard seems to be craving less than Jessica, since Jessica had a fag last night, she had a disipline for this and she had to pay money to charity to do so. (this is to help her realise how much she is spending on fags.).
There are images for evidence, images such as

Also on this day they:-
- interveiwed people
- their reactions on the smoking presentation
- how they were feeling on the day.
I felt like we got alot of different opinions which was relavant and good, i felt like they had more of an understanding on smoking and that they are coping well and arent craving as much.

Jessica seems to want to smoke more and feels sleepy and unhappier than Richard. Even though he says the product given doesnt seem to be working it does seem to have its effects.
There are images for evidence, images such as
- Nick who was interveiwed by Richard, he has also been helping with the camera equiptment (crew).
- Richard who was being filmed for interveiwing
- Jessica who had to pay money to cancer research
What went well?
- The interveiws, i found we had a range of answers.
- Evaluation of the day, i thought the evaluation was honest and needed footage.
- interveiw with a doctor
Day one/ filming
Day one
For day one i wrote myself a plan of what i was going to do, i stuck to this and this is my plan.
What went well?
For day one i wrote myself a plan of what i was going to do, i stuck to this and this is my plan.
- fitness test
- the two smokers smoking
- them talking about who they are, why they smoke, how long, how many, and the infulences.
- them opening envelopes, within them is the how much they spend a day, week, month and yearly.
- interveiw their friends.
What went well?
- The fitness test because they tried and told how they felt.
- The footage, i felt like i captured enough and had alot to work with.
- Had the fitness test in a gym.
- Talked to a doctor.
Risk assessment/schedule
Risk assessments
- Risk assessments are vital and they must be done before filming in any area
- Places such as in the Coleg, there can be fires, cables, cars etc.
- For this i had to say what risk and what to do to prevent it and who to blame if this happens.
- Cars- wear a visible jacket so that i can be seen
- Cables- selotape them down
- Fires- no liquids or dangerous chemicals around equipment
Coleg Morgannwg and Enterprise Centre is where I am filming.
Schedule.
To be able to start filming I must do a filming schedule.

Day 5/research
Day 5
In day five there will be the drinking theory, where the two smokers will have a drink and have temptations of smoke, (hanging around someone smoking). From this i want to see them crave but resist smoking.
What will i have to do?
confirm with parents of the smokers that they are aloud to drink
confirm with the pub that they are aloud to film there
Back up plan?
if i cannot film in the pub i will have them in a house party either in my house or someone who allows house parties, to use that house party to see if the smokers can resist smoking whilst under alcohol.

Day 4/Research
Videos diaries should be used for evidence that the two smokers have quit smoking. They will both have individual cameras to record themselves.
What do i want to see?
Jessica:-
to cope very well with giving up smoking and fins that the NHS plan work well for her.
Richard:-
To see that quitting smoking is a struggle and that he gets the effects that are in my research.
I want to be able to see five days of a video diary, this will be useful and vital to the documentary.

NHS calculator
This is the link:- http://smokefree.nhs.uk/quit-tools/cost-calculator/
On average they spend 5.35 a pack
5 per day
Jessica:-
Week:- £9.39 which is the equivalent of a cinema ticket
Month:- £40.68 which is the equivalent of a spray tan at a salon

20 per day
Richard:-
Week:- £37.55 which is the equivalent of five trips to the cinema
Month:- £162.73 which is the equivalent of a mobile phone
Year:- £1952.75 which is the equivalent of 32 premier league tickets or 278 cinema tickets
Together a day they smoke 25 fags
Week:- £46.94 which is the equivalent of 6 cinema tickets
Month:- £203.41 which is the equivalent of 4 dvd box sets
Year:-£2440.94 which is the equivalent of 24 mobile phones or 24 family day out tickets
Hopefully this will surprise them and make them realise how much they are spending.
Evaluation
The evaluation will be the conclusion on smoking the topic.
Day 2/research
Day 2
What did i do?
asked the two smokers where they lived and then tried to find out their local GP, they both go to the same one so i looked on the internet and researched what the name of the clinic is and the phone number, which is Taff Vale Practice 01443 406591
I then researched for one in Ponty which is not fair from where they live, the number for the Ponty clinic is 01443 40444.
I want to interview a doctor to able to get a professional view and professional information.
What questions to ask?
1. Is smoking harmful to the body?
2. What are the effects of smoking?
3. What happens if someone smokes cuts it off completely?
4. What will happen if the two smokers continue to smoke?
These are the questions that i want to ask the doctor to get the information that i need for my documentary.
Day 1/ research
To be able to record a fitness test, i must first research somewhere where fitness instructors do fitness test, and if there is a cost.
I have to:-
- Research a area
- Instructor
- Test
- Price
Whilst researching i came across Ystrad sports Centre i came across the details:-
Gelligaled Park
Ystrad
Rhondda
Rhondda Cynon Taff
CF41 7SY
Tel : 01443 434093

Tel : 01443 434093
There was then a link which i clicked on this link was the Rhondda Cynon Taff, this gave me no information on the sports centre and what they do, so i will ring them to see if they provide fitness tests.
I rang the sports centre and they said that i should go to the gym and talk to the head of the gym to see what they can arrange for me, this is because i have a gym card which allows me more access. Once i go to the sports centre then i will be able to see where i can from there.

videos
Videos/research
For the opening sequence i will also be putting videos that i are seen by people on adverts, etc. I will also be using these videos throughout my documentary to show what is being advertised to the public on the television or on the internet, manly youtube.
I will begin my research looking at youtube.
I will type in smoking adverts to see the results. The results that i had were 184, i am going to look at a number of adverts which stands out and that i can use, mostly ones which are relevant.
I looked at some smoking ads and decided that it would be better to use NHS ads, so i typed in NHS smoking ads, the results that i had were 36.
These adverts i found look relevant and has a impact because of what is being shown, these are the links for further use
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftkYPpD4K8M
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HccVUazOb-M
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=anFK9SA5kKw
I will be contacting the NHS to see if i can use their adverts and to see if they can send me a download which will look good in my documentary.

Music
Music
The type of music that i want to use must be a happy song, not to lighten the subject but to make the smoking look more of a joke, if i use music which is lighter than the subject then the opening will work better.
I will research websites to be able to find the appropriate music. I will search we7 which has a range of music available.
The music that i have decided to use is by Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis called smoking, i want to use this because it has the humour that i want and the instant get of what topic i am doing.
I went onto the website we7 and they do not allow me to buy the song, so i went in amazon and they were selling to download but the song was different from the song i heard on we7, so i am going to keep researching songs.
I then research more and found that the Ting Tings shut up and let me go, went well with the theme, and the song i wanna be like you, from jungles book.

Primary research
Primary research
Now that I have finished my secondary research, which is finding information from the internet, i must now do my primary research.
What primary is there?
Questionnaire
Interviews
Contacting company related
Questionnaire
I am going to make a questionnaire which is related to smoking, i will first find out their details such as job, gender, etc. Then at the end of the questionnaire ask a couple of questions of smoking. This questionnaire will be given to random people of all ages to make the research fair. The questionnaire will tell me the average of smokers and their status.
Interviews
I will ask two people who don't smoke on their thoughts on smoking and then i will ask two smokers on what they think of smoking, this will give me hopefully two points of views and what people think of smoking in general. The questions that i will ask will be:-
Do you smoke?
What do you think of smoking?
Contacting
To contact NHS will help me get the information straight from the place where information is given and products are used to help people quit, if i get the information from contacting then i get the experience of what a smoker feels like when they ring to quit.
When I rang the NHS i was told that there is support like meeting and infomation that is send to the person, and that if they need anything to ring up and ask for. I thought that the information given is very helpful and i understood what i would be given, (information).
I will be giving out a questionnaire to see the average number of people smoking, i will give these questionnaires out to people i do not know to make the results fair.
The questionnaires that i will be asking is their status, if they smoke, gender, etc.
This is my questionnaire: -

Target audience
In every product and film, you must need to the target audience, this is because you then can see what can be included and what cannot be included due to ages. For example an 18 film can only be shown to 18’s and older, this is because the e.g. film may contain swearing and violence to extreme for someone who is 18 and younger.
The target audience is a guide of what you can use in what you are doing, you can then see the levels of e.g. laughter used.Support for people quitting
There is a number of different ways of smoking, and there is different supports. The most common support is from the NHS, but there is support that is given from your friends and family. Some people also use the internet for support because there is a mass of information that is given to people searching to quit.
I typed in on google "quit smoking", the result was 4,200,000.
This shows me that there is a lot of information provided to people who want to quit.
The NHS provides a mass of support such as a quit kit which provides a mass of information on smoking, information on quit smoking medicines, music to calm your cravings, and more information that you may need. The NHS also provides support online such as calculate the cost, which helps you to see how much you spend each, week, fortnight, month and year. This is there to shook the smoker and make them realise how much money they are spending. Addiction test, support materials, timeline and make a promise.
You can also order a number of support materials which will be send to your home within 6-10 days of order.
There is also a number of products that can be used to help quit smoking, products such as the invisipatch,
icy white gum, inhaltor, microtab, gum and nasal spray.
All of these products are provided by Nicorette. Which is a company of products to help people who want to quit smoking.
These two types of support is what i am going to use in my documentary.
The images that i have used is from google and the information is from the NHS and Nicorette.
When i ordered the quit kit from online, it said that it would take 6-10 days. I did wait those days and then rang the NHS number to see why i had not received the quit kit. They then said that they do not send it to Wales. I found that it was unfair to people in Wales who are trying to quit, because the support is not send and that it should be because people do smoke in Wales and need the support.

Advertisement of anti smoking
Advertisement
Advertisement of anti smoking is there to help smokers realise that they are harming their body, and advertisement is used to show them. Before the anti smoking adverts there were advertisements to make people smoke, they were usually seen on billboards, they are now banned, because of the amount of influence it had on people to smoke, they tried to make people think smoking was cool.
Above is an example of advertisement of smoking.
There is a number of advertisement of anti smoking such as billboards, leaflets, networking, adverts, posters and images.
These are all advertisements to stop people from smoking, to disgust them to stop quitting. The most common of advertisement is on a cigarette packet, so when the smoker sees the packet, they will see what is happening to their insides.
There are two types of advertisement on cigarette packets which is writing and images, the images are very influential to people to quit smoking because some images are there to disgust you.
The images that i used is from google.
The information that i have used is my own words.
Influences of smoking
Influences
There are a number of influences on people to start smoking, i am going to look on three types of influences, these influences are celebrities, parents and friends. These are the main influences of smoking.
Influences
Celebrities
Many teenagers have a celebrity role model, what if this celebrity smokes, does this mean that the teenager will copy? Most defiantly because to the teenager the smoking looks like its a cool thing to do, copying what they think is right. Celebrities make smoking look like a elegant and sophisticated habit, they may not realise it but they encourage smoking to teenagers. (Its the same as a girl getting a a new hair style like her celebrity role model).

To be able to make a statement like i have i researched and found this
"Researchers who spoke to 600 schoolchildren have revealed that images of stars smoking in films and magazines has a powerful impact on kids"
http://news.bbc.co.uk/cbbcnews/hi/chat/your_comments/newsid_3743000/3743304.stm
These celebrities are Colin Farrell, Robert Pattinson and Kayne West. These images have been taken by google.
Influences
Parents
Another influence of smoking is parents that smoke, if a parent constantly smoke around their children, does that mean that they are most likely to smoke, if they have been living with it for years would they be able to cope without it?
It is twice as likely that a parent who smokes will influence their children to smoke rather than a parent who doesn't. smoking is most likely to start between the ages of 13-21. (With parents who smoke).
These images have been taken from google, to show the influence of smoking that parents have on their children.
The information that i have used is from
A very good example of parents having a influence on children to smoke is the advert for the NHS, which is about parents and smoking. I think that the way they have used the song and the editing works well together. I think that this advert makes you realise that your children do copy you and that they will in anything.
Here is the URL for the video which is on youtube.
Friends
Smoking around friends can sometimes make the other friend who doesn't smoke, smoke. some friends pressure their friends to smoke because it gives them a good effect, or its cool to do, you will make more friends if you smoke.
Where is this an influence?
School
College
University
Pubs
Work
Socialising

I think that there is alot to play on friends influencing smoking because you can smoke anywhere and they know that. Teenagers see smoking as a good look and then encourage their friends to do it, to make them look cool.
Most of my friends are smokers and they started smoking because of their friends, hanging around them for so long whilst they smoked, made them like the smell, and got them started.
I asked two friends why they started smoking, this was their response.
I started smoking because I was drunk and somebody offered me a fag so I took it and have been smoking since :) x
i started smokeing becuse all my friends were smokeing nd i was drun lol i thoughti wud give it a lil ty lyk nd i dint mind it so i been smokeing ever since
The facts of smoking
The basic facts of smoking
Research on smoking
Smoking is very addictive, this is because tobacco contains nicotine. Nicotine effects your brain when you inhale, the effects is that it increases your heart rate and causes a surge in your hormones in your brain, these hormones are noradrenaline and dopamine. This actually gives a positive effect on your mood because it helps you to concentrate better, when you are not smoking your hormones decrease, which makes you feel anxious and irritable which makes you then crave another cigarette. Nicotine can also increase high blood pressure, this can cause vomiting, blurry vision and headaches.
A cigarette contains more than 4,000 different chemical, most of these chemicals are toxic and harmful to your body. 60 or more chemicals cause cancer.
What happens when cigarettes are taken away
When you take away a cigarette from a smoker, a number of effects take place, effects such as you feel dizzy, restless, frustrated, find difficulty in sleeping, depressed mood, irritable, eat more, decreases heart rate and lack of concentration.
Tar
When you inhale a cigarette you also inhale tar, which sticks to your lungs. Tar contains chemicals which are called carcinogens, this helps the development of cancer cells in the body.
Risk
There are many risks to smoking, these risks are lung cancer, coronary heart disease, cervical cancer, bladder cancer, pancreatic cancer, stomach cancer, kidney cancer, oesophageal cancer and oral cancer which is cancer in the mouth. There are other risks but these are the most common of risks that people who smoke face.
Here are some images to show the effects of smoking, these images are examples of what I will show in my presentation.

From these images you can tell that these are the main effects of smoking, this is why the NHS has used them to promote quitting smoking.
